How to prepare a New Book Proposal
New books - that's what it's all about: progress is made through the sharing of knowledge, facts, cooperation. Your suggestions for new books are welcomed and we look forward to evaluating your proposals. Bear in mind that it is not necessary to write a book entirely before you contact us, the best course is to submit a general plan, and interaction with your editor at this early stage is extremely valuable. Whenever you are ready to submit your proposal, we recommend that it be structured as follows:
Overview. An overall summary (approx 200-300 words) outlining the book’s aim and scope.
Contents. Provide a list of the contents with a brief description of each chapter.
Readership. A realistic evaluation of the intended audience/market. Please consider the following:
·level of prospective audience: who is the book geared for?
· Is it going to be used within an academic or training course?
· Is it of international or local interest?
Specificity. What makes your book stand above others of a similar topic?
Additional information.
Provide general pertinent information, such as:
· Current stage of the manuscript and when do you anticipate completion
· How many pages is the final manuscript going to be?
· How many line diagrams and pictures are there?
· Do you plan to include any special features (i.e. fold-outs, colour graphs/pictures).
Author data. Provide a short note on all those involved in the writing of the book, as well as a detailed list of the previously published materials.
